Don't forget that impeachment doesn't do anything.
An impeachment is like an "indictment". When people are indicted by a grand jury for a crime, they still have to go to trial. And where will the trial take place? In the Senate where Clinton's impeachment hearings were held. After all - Clinton was impeached but not convicted - so he stayed in office. Besides - what is a "high crime and misdemeanor" - you can't impeach for stupidity - you have to have a real crime. Any many may think that this administration is "corrupt" and all that - but if you don't have a crime - you can't take it anywhere. Here's an example: Scooter Libby is being taken down for a process violation - when no original crime had been committed. What if you were called to testify before the grand jury in a murder trial and told them the truth - that you had lied to some reporters. And then they found out that the person the trial was all about wasn't really dead - and there was no original crime - but they're coming after you anyhow - Another interesting factoid - lying on the witness stand is not perjury. It's only perjury if it's material to the case. Many years ago a man was asked a question on the witness stand if he had ever cheated on his wife - and he said no - even though there was evidence that he had cheated. This was not material to the murder trial at hand - and while they wanted to get him for perjury - they could not. |
